Content Audit Checklist
Use this checklist before the first crawl and during ongoing content reviews.
Checklist
Check: Important public pages are linked from navigation, docs, sitemap, or internal content.
Check: Each page has one descriptive title and one clear H1.
Check: Meta descriptions summarize the page in visitor-friendly language.
Check: Important answers are visible in text, not only images, video, or private widgets.
Check: CMS collections and docs pages appear in /sitemap.xml.
Check: Dashboard, checkout, account, API, and private app routes are excluded.
Check: Search-result pages use clear result titles and snippets.
Check: AI-answer pages state facts explicitly and keep plan or policy details current.
Check: Zero-result searches are reviewed and turned into content tasks.
Check: A fresh crawl runs after major publishing or URL changes.
Before the first crawl
Confirm that your public website has enough content to search. A thin one-page site will not produce useful search results or AI summaries. Add product pages, docs, FAQs, pricing explanations, policies, troubleshooting content, and support articles before treating search as a finished experience.
After publishing changes
Run a fresh crawl after adding or rewriting important pages. Search and AI Summary use indexed content, so new pages are not available to visitors until the crawl and indexing process completes.
Monthly review habit
- Export or review popular queries and zero-result searches.
- Group queries by product, setup, pricing, support, policy, and integration intent.
- Update pages whose titles or headings do not match visitor language.
- Add new FAQ or docs pages for repeated unanswered questions.
- Recrawl and test the highest-volume queries again.
